Justice reform is a central pillar of the European integration process and the key to transforming the Republic of Moldova into a safe, fair, and predictable state for all citizens.

The statement was made by Cristina Gherasimov, the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, during the regional conference titled "Strengthening Judicial Independence and Accountability: Regional Perspectives and Challenges."

“Without an independent and credible judiciary, we cannot discuss a European Moldova where the law is applied equally for all and where citizens can trust that justice will be served,” emphasized Gherasimov. “Today, more than ever, as the region faces an existential struggle between law and abuse, and between democracy and aggression, the legal profession is called to be an anchor of stability and hope.”

During the same event, Gherasimov reiterated that adherence to the rule of law is non-negotiable in the European Union.

“It is a fundamental value, and Moldova seeks to join this community precisely because we share these values,” she stated.

These remarks were made in the context of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the institutions of the rule of law as it prepares to open accession negotiations with the European Union.

The conference was organized by the Superior Council of Magistracy of the Republic of Moldova in partnership with the Council of Europe, as part of the project "Support for Justice Reform."
