Teen girl assaulted: Criminal probe launched

A criminal investigation has been launched into the incident where a teenage girl was physically assaulted and humiliated by another girl, while several young people witnessed it without intervening, announced Dan Perciun, the Minister of Education and Research (MEC), during a live social media broadcast.

According to Perciun, the young people seen in the video footage are from at least five educational institutions, and all will be identified and questioned.

"The moment we received the video, we immediately began collaborating with our police colleagues. We are now at the stage where, together with the police, we are identifying all individuals involved in that incident. All the young people who participated are from multiple educational institutions, from at least five institutions at this stage. What happened is, indeed, extremely serious and will have consequences," Perciun stated.

The Minister also announced that the assaulted teenager is receiving psychological counseling from the Republican Center for Psycho-pedagogical Assistance. Additionally, authorities are set to hold hearings with those involved, organize discussions within school communities, and conduct meetings with parents to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

"Over the next week, as all those involved are identified, hearings and interviews will take place with them. We will work with the police to establish all the circumstances of the incident, to understand what led to it, how young people from so many educational institutions ended up in the same place at the same time, and, of course, there will be discussions within school communities, as well as discussions with the parents of these children, to understand what needs to happen so that this doesn't repeat in the future, and where necessary, sanctions or other forms of accountability will be applied," emphasized Dan Perciun.

It's worth noting that video footage circulated on social media showing a student being beaten and humiliated right in a schoolyard. Currently, it's not precisely known which institution the incident took place in or when. It's important to add that the People's Advocate for Children's Rights has also taken notice of this case and condemned both the violence and the dissemination of unblurred images in the public space, emphasizing that minors must be protected in all environments, including the school setting.
