General Inspectorate of Carabinieri has new commander-in-chief, backed by the Government

The Government has endorsed Dumitru Scurtu’s candidacy for the position of General Commander of the General Inspectorate of Carabinieri (IGC). This proposal was presented by Minister of Internal Affairs Daniela Misail-Nichitin during the Government meeting held on July 21.
The proposal to appoint Mr. Dumitru Scurtu will be presented to President Maia Sandu.
The Minister of the Interior stated that Dumitru Scurtu, currently a brigadier general, has over 28 years of experience in the internal affairs system.
"He will continue to promote European values, respect for human rights, and the rule of law. He will also be responsible for modernizing the state's defense capacity," the minister emphasized.
The Cabinet of Ministers unanimously supported his candidacy.
Mr. Scurtu's mandate as the new commander-in-chief of the Internal General Command (IGC) will commence on July 22, 2025, and will last for a period of five years.
Additionally, we remind you that at the beginning of 2024, Dumitru Scurtu was appointed head of the General Inspectorate of Carabinieri.
