Government approves 1,000 lei aid for students in grades I–IX

Starting from the 2025–2026 school year, families in the Republic of Moldova with children enrolled in grades I–IX will receive a one-time financial support of 1,000 lei for each child. This decision was approved by the Government on Monday, July 21.
According to the Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun, a new aid program aims to support approximately 297,000 families in preparing for the upcoming school year. The total estimated value of the program is 300 million lei.
The authorities announced that in most cases—97%—the support will be granted automatically, based on the lists of students enrolled in schools that are managed by the Ministry of Education.
“These lists will be sent to the National Social Insurance House (CNAS), which will make the payments directly to the families, either to their bank cards or at the post office,” the minister explained.
For cases where the data cannot be processed automatically, families will have the option to submit a physical application to the Territorial Social Insurance House.
Payments are set to begin on September 4, 2025. The initial lists of beneficiaries will be sent out starting August 10, with a deadline for additional applications to CNAS on November 14, 2025.
“We expect this unique support to enhance the quality of education by helping families prepare better for the new school year, reducing absenteeism, and promoting equity within our education system,” said Dan Perciun.
This announcement was previously made on June 17 by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Minister Dan Perciun during a press conference.
Some analysts commented on this measure, suggesting that the support provided just before the elections may also serve a political purpose.
