Swimming pool tragedies: Two children and a young man drown in Florești and Orhei

In the past 24 hours, three individuals, including two children, tragically lost their lives in swimming pool incidents across the Florești and Orhei districts.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, the first incident occurred on July 21, near the village of Trifănești, Florești district. A 12-year-old boy drowned in the Căinar River after falling into the water while playing. His lifeless body was recovered by locals before specialized teams arrived. The exact circumstances surrounding this tragedy are still under investigation.
The second case happened on the night of July 21 at a pond in the village of Chiperceni, Orhei district. Two brothers, aged 20 and 12, drowned while fishing. The alarm was raised at 11:20 PM by a friend who noticed their personal belongings on the shore.
Rescuers and divers from the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU) responded to the scene. On the morning of July 22, the body of the 20-year-old was found and brought ashore. The search for the missing 12-year-old is ongoing.
In light of these tragedies, IGSU urges citizens to only use swimming areas that are equipped and supervised by lifeguards. Amateur fishermen are also advised to choose safe locations away from strong currents and dams.
According to official data, since the beginning of 2025, 34 people, including 6 minors, have drowned in the Republic of Moldova.
