Moldova warns citizens: Fight election fraud now

Moldovan citizens are being warned by law enforcement about election fraud. "Don't accept, don't offer, report! Election fraud is a crime, and the law applies to everyone," urges the National Police.

According to the Police, election fraud includes offering money in exchange for votes; transporting voters for personal gain; promising goods or services on election day; demanding photos of ballots; or pressuring individuals to vote "as instructed."

"Election fraud is a slap in the face to democracy. If we want an honest country, we must protect every vote – ensuring it is fair, free, and conscious," stated Government Spokesperson Daniel Vodă.

Official data from the 2024 election shows that 140,000 documented reports of violations were filed, and 6,903 individuals were summoned for hearings. Over 3,760 people are cooperating with investigators, approximately 1,940 reports were challenged but upheld by courts, and over 14 million lei were collected in fines.

Parliamentary elections will take place on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) urges citizens who will be abroad on election day to register in advance via the official platform, by August 14, 11:59 PM (Moldovan time). According to the institution, this registration helps authorities accurately estimate voter numbers and efficiently decide where polling stations need to be opened.

The final decision regarding the number and locations of polling stations abroad will be made by the CEC by August 24, in accordance with the deadline set by electoral law.
