Moldova's first trading partner Romania. Dorin Recean: "The banks of the Prut are becoming even closer for business"
The trade-economic exchanges between the Republic of Moldova and Romania continue to enjoy a positive dynamic. In 2022 alone, the value of trade between the two countries increased by $1.2 billion, announces Romania's Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă. With bilateral trade totalling around $3.6 billion, Romania continues to be one of our country's most important trading partners.
"Romania has become the second largest investor in the Republic of Moldova. Our figures show that bilateral trade increased by $1.2 billion in 2022, which means it reached a figure of around $3.6 billion," said Romania's Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă at a joint press conference with Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
During the press conference, the officials stated that the development of economic relations and the opening of new bridges between the entrepreneurs of the two countries remain among the main objectives of the governments in Chisinau and Bucharest.
"We want to increase investments in Moldova and we will work to this end. We will make use of the opportunities and business potential in both countries to this end," said Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that Romania is the main market for Moldovan products and that the government in Chisinau aims to attract more Romanian investment in Moldova. He also said that the Chisinau government is determined to transform the country's institutions and economy to make them strong, resilient and ready to make a decisive contribution to Moldova's accession to the European Union.
"I have a message for entrepreneurs, whom I encourage to expand their businesses and use their economic potential (...) Chisinau opens more and more opportunities for business. I am sure that all of us, together, can harness this potential on the right and left bank of the Prut. (...) Business people speak the same language, our businesses speak the same language, and by transposing the European legislation, the Prut banks become even closer for business people", said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The head of the government in Chisinau said that integrated financial markets would soon be launched, so that the Bucharest capital market would also be accessible to Chisinau.
Dorin Recean is today paying his first visit abroad after his appointment as Prime Minister.
