UK support for Moldova: Trade & driver license deal

Moldovan President Maia Sandu met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, during which the two officials discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The discussion focused on economic partnership, the United Kingdom's support for Moldova's modernization, and the active role of the Moldovan diaspora in boosting both economies.
A key topic was the elimination of customs tariffs for several Moldovan products in 2023, which resulted in significant export growth: plum deliveries increased fifteen-fold, apple exports nearly five-fold, and grape exports almost threefold. President Sandu expressed her interest in further expanding economic ties between the two countries.
President Sandu also welcomed the agreement reached between authorities in the Republic of Moldova and the UK, which will allow Moldovan citizens to exchange their driving licenses for British ones without needing to take additional tests.
According to the Presidency, discussions between the two officials also focused on continued British support for strengthening democratic institutions in Moldova and enhancing the state's capacity to respond to regional challenges.
President Maia Sandu's agenda will continue with an audience with King Charles III.
President Sandu is on a working visit to the United Kingdom from July 23-24.
