Public authorities warned against voter meetings outside campaigns: Fines up to 15,000 lei

Public authorities and state-owned enterprises are advised not to permit activities conducted by political parties outside of the electoral campaign. Otherwise, they may face fines ranging from 9,000 to 15,000 lei.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) issued a circular on July 24, informing central and local public authorities, organizations, enterprises, public institutions, and other legal entities funded by the public budget or state capital that financial support for political parties, including indirect support, is prohibited outside of electoral campaigns.
Indirect financial support for electoral competitors is only permissible during the electoral campaign, which for the parliamentary elections this autumn will run from August 29 to September 27, stated the central electoral authority.
The Commission explained that indirect financial support can be provided by establishing designated electoral display locations and offering premises for meetings with voters.
Any illegal financing of political parties, initiative groups, electoral contestants, or referendum participants by legal entities will result in fines ranging from 12,000 to 15,000 lei. Individuals in responsible positions may face fines ranging from 9,000 to 15,000 lei.
*Violations of electoral legislation will be identified by the competent electoral body, with assistance from relevant legal authorities. Amounts received or used in violation of the aforementioned rules will be directed to the state budget, as per a decision from the Central Electoral Commission, said the CEC.
Additionally, the central electoral authority reminded local public administration bodies that they must establish and ensure special electoral display sites and venues for meetings with voters within three days before the start of the electoral campaign.
We remind you that the electoral period for the parliamentary elections began on July 14. The submission of documents for candidates wishing to run for parliamentary deputy started on July 20 and will conclude on August 19. The nomination period and the collection of signatures in support of independent candidates for deputy positions also began on July 20.
The electoral campaign for the parliamentary elections set for September 28 will officially commence on August 29.
