Passion for plants grows into profitable village business

Anatol Șatravca, from Chiperceni village in Orhei district, has successfully transformed his hobby into a profitable business, running a thriving plant nursery for over a year.

Although he lived in Romania for a while, he decided to return to his home village because, as the entrepreneur puts it, "You should do what you love right where you belong."

Anatol Șatravca, 35, says he started his business with the support of a grant from the National Agency for Employment (ANOFM).

"There are many start-up business courses now. I took several of them, but it's not like they tell you – 'pay 250 or 500 euros, whatever the course costs, and a month later, you'll have a thousand or ten thousand.' It doesn't quite work that way. What I did learn from them is that if you don't want to work, do what you love, and somehow, that's where the idea of multiplying plants came from. I'm doing what I love," explains the nursery owner.

He manages the business in the yard of the house he inherited from his grandparents. He lived in the city, but still, "eternity was born in the village."

"I've already been to the city. I lived in Romania for over a year with my children, with my family. Our thoughts always came back here. We had to return here to spend our free time, so I said, 'Why all these trips, when we can just root ourselves in our place where we began?' If before I thought it was better where I wasn't, now it's good where I am," says Anatol Șatravca, the nursery owner.

The man says that each of us should fully appreciate the place we live in.

"The only problem is that we can't truly enjoy it because we don't understand what we have and how to use it as nourishment for the soul," Anatol Șatravca added.
