Prime Minister Dorin Recean meets European Commissioner Didier Reynders: "We are committed to building an honest justice system"
The consolidation of the rule of law and the continuation of justice reforms were discussed today, 2 March, by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, who was on an official visit to Moldova. At the meeting, PM Dorin Recean stated that the authorities were determined to build an honest justice system, as the reform of the justice system and the fight against corruption were important aspects of Moldova's path to EU membership.
Dorin Recean pointed out that a special chapter in the current executive's programme of activities is dedicated to justice. The main priorities concern the evaluation of judges and prosecutors (vetting), the delimitation of the competences of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Centre, as well as the draft law on de-oligarchization.
"Everything the Government builds must be sustainable and credible, including in the area of justice. What we want is for Moldovan citizens to have confidence in state institutions, to feel protected in their country. Even if it might take longer than planned, we are determined to successfully implement the planned reform agenda," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders reaffirmed the European Union's support for the reform agenda of the government in Chisinau and congratulated the new head of the Cabinet of Ministers on his inauguration.
For his part, Dorin Recean thanked the European official for the expertise and financial support provided by the European Commission for the implementation of justice reforms.
