Taraclia University becomes Bulgaria's first overseas branch

The Taraclia University is set to become a branch of the "Angel Kanchev" University in Ruse, Bulgaria, marking the first Bulgarian higher education institution to open outside the country.
An agreement to this effect was signed on Sunday, July 27, in Taraclia.
The agreement was signed by the Education Ministers of both states, Dan Perciun and Krasimir Valchev, in the presence of Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Bulgarian Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov.
The Taraclia branch of "Angel Kanchev" University will offer instruction across seven specializations, including pedagogy, Bulgarian language and history, as well as business, informatics, and agricultural engineering. Instruction will be conducted in Bulgarian, Romanian, and English. The university will issue European diplomas, and students will receive a monthly scholarship of approximately 2,400 lei.
"Those who study here will benefit from diplomas recognized throughout the European area. This is a very important step for the entire region, not just for Taraclia. I want to encourage all young people from Taraclia, Cahul, the Gagauz autonomy, as well as those from Ukraine's Bolhrad and Izmail districts, to come and study at the 'Angel Kanchev' University Branch in Taraclia," Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized.
The university's activity is expected to boost cultural and social life in the country's south, contribute to the internationalization of higher education, including through active participation in international projects, and attract foreign students to Moldova's educational system, according to a government press release.
Referring to cooperation in education, Prime Minister Dorin Recean also commended the publication of 1,000 books on Bulgarian history and language, supported by the Government in Sofia.
"This is an investment in the European future of our countries. This is what the European Union means – a community that offers opportunities, equality, and security for every one of its members, for all minorities, and for all citizens," Dorin Recean added.
It is worth noting that the "Angel Kanchev" University in Ruse, Bulgaria, is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
