Pay public services instantly: Moldova's new MIA system

Starting today, 120 public services can be paid for directly from your phone, with no commission, through the MIA Instant Payments system.

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) launched P2G (Person to Government) on July 31st, in partnership with the Government, as part of the MIA Instant Payments system.

According to the National Bank (NBM), over 120 public services are already available for payments via MIA and can be paid anytime, directly from the EVO app or the Mpay platform.

This means that to pay a bill, you no longer need to enter payment details. Simply select the MIA option as your payment method, and the transaction will be completed in a few seconds from any banking app.

"MIA Instant Payments is an extraordinary product. It facilitates the interaction of citizens, as well as the business environment, with the financial-banking system, and, very importantly, with the Government. We must continue to build smart bureaucracy. Today, we are launching additional services for both the business community and consumers to interact with the Government and governmental institutions. All governmental institutions have a simple, yet comprehensive task: to connect their systems to the Government's digitalization process," declared Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the P2G launch event, which took place at the Government building.

In turn, Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, emphasized the importance of continuing digital transformation for the benefit of citizens and the business environment.

"MIA does not only mean transfers between friends or relatives. From the very beginning, the NBM conceived this project as a complete digital ecosystem, designed to meet the diverse needs of citizens, the business environment, and state institutions. Today, MIA means transfers between individuals, payments from citizens to companies, merchants, and public institutions. These are steps that bring concrete benefits to the economy," mentioned the NBM Governor.

Exactly one year ago, P2B (Person to Business) was launched within the MIA Instant Payments system, quickly becoming an indispensable solution for thousands of companies in the Republic of Moldova. From shops and restaurants to salons, service providers, and online platforms, more and more businesses have integrated MIA into their daily operations.

According to NBM data, in just one year, over 3,000 active companies have used MIA through more than 7,000 acceptance points nationwide.

To date, the system has registered over 9 million transactions made by individuals, with a total value exceeding 8 billion lei. Meanwhile, through the governmental MPay system, over 30 billion lei have circulated this year alone.
