The 20-year-old clinched the gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships, which are currently underway in Singapore.

In the final, Popovici finished the race in 46.51 seconds. He outpaced American Jack Alexy, who took silver, and Australian Kyle Chalmers, who took bronze. Alexy recorded a time of 46.92 seconds, while Chalmers clocked 47.17 seconds.
