European support for Tudora: Water and waste systems upgraded

In the village of Tudora, located in the Ștefan Vodă district, European projects are bringing noticeable improvements: the water network was modernized, garbage disposal systems were organized, and the House of Culture is set to undergo a long-awaited renovation. Local authorities and villagers acknowledge that these transformations would not have been possible without the support of external partners.
Last year, a major project was implemented in the village of Tudora with financial support from the Austrian Development Agency. A water tower was installed, costing approximately 570,000 lei.
"In the summer, when temperatures rise, we sometimes experience water shortages for two or three weeks in the valley. Here, on a few streets, people often went without a drop of water from spring to late autumn," explains Veronica Mocan, the mayor of Tudora.
Additionally, with the support of the Austrian Agency, an area for waste collection was established.
"Until last year, the area was overflowing with garbage. After implementing a project to arrange a designated waste storage area, the situation has improved. Now, garbage is collected from households monthly and transported to this site, with the monthly volume exceeding one ton," reports Ana Nemțu, a journalist from Moldova1.
"We received assistance to build a metal mesh fence, and we also have a green fence with acacia trees planted around the site. The previous issue was that garbage was located at the edge of the village, with bags spilling over to the international route," the mayor adds.
With continued support from European partners, the City Hall plans to repair the Culture House, which is currently in a dire state. Previously, the festivity hall in Tudora was one of the largest in the district, capable of hosting 400 guests.
"The Culture House in Tudora was built in 1985, and it now requires significant repairs. The celebration hall is in disrepair—walls are cracked, pieces of the ceiling have fallen, and the furniture is old. We are working on a renovation project with support from the Romanian Government," states the Moldova1 journalist.
"We see that the walls are cracked, and the additional walls are also damaged. For this reason, we need a technical project and an assessment to restore this space to usability," explains Dorina Onici, the director of the House of Culture in Tudora.
Currently, all events are held in the entrance hall of the House of Culture.
"This space is used for gatherings, meetings of various community groups, and even to discuss local issues. It serves as a meeting point for young people and the elderly," adds the mayor.
Residents report that many positive changes occurred in the village, aided by external support.
"I have lived in Tudora for 45 years, and the changes are visible. We're pleased to have access to kindergartens, schools, and European-standard roads", said one resident.
"These projects required significant funding and were essential for improving conditions in the village," said a resident.
"Without this contribution, advancing would have been very challenging. You can genuinely feel the change; even the road has been paved," says Sergiu Mocanu, a local councilor.
Approximately 1,500 people reside in the village of Tudora.
