Nicu Popescu reacts to Moscow's critics: Romanian is spoken in the Republic of Moldova
Romanian is spoken in the Republic of Moldova and absolutely no country has the moral, legal and political right to comment on this. The statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, after Moscow expressed its dissatisfaction with the statement adopted by the Parliament, regarding the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and regarding the decision of the Moldovan legislators to replace the phrase "Moldovan language" with " the Romanian language" in all the legislation of the country.
"We are outraged by the outrage of the Russian Federation. The language we speak belongs to us, the decision of what we call this language belongs to us, and absolutely no country in the world has the moral, legal and political right to comment on these things. Romanian is spoken in the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Moldova has a common history, language with Romania. Including, by virtue of this community, the Republic of Moldova is part of the European family, we will join the European Union, regardless of the comments or lack thereof of third countries".
Yesterday, the Parliament adopted in the first reading a draft law that provides for the replacement of the phrase "Moldovan language" with "Romanian language". Also, the deputies from the parliamentary majority adopted a statement condemning the aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Moreover, the deputies from Chisinau requested Moscow to immediately cease military activities in the neighboring country and to unconditionally withdraw all military forces and equipment from the entire internationally recognized territory of Ukraine.
Soon after, Moscow once again requested the Moldovan authorities to stop the "anti-Russian rhetoric".
