Moldova warns citizens of Portugal wildfire risk

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Moldova has issued a travel alert for Portugal, warning citizens who are currently in, transiting through, or planning to travel to the country.
From August 4–7, 2025, Portuguese authorities have declared a national state of alert due to the extreme risk of wildfires.
The measure comes amid high temperatures and severe weather conditions, which have increased the risk of fires breaking out in forested and hard-to-reach areas.
In this context, Portuguese authorities have implemented exceptional restrictions. These include the prohibition of vehicle access and travel in forests and nature reserves, a ban on open flames, fireworks, and other pyrotechnic devices, as well as restrictions on the use of equipment that could generate sparks or accidental ignitions.
The MFA advises Moldovan citizens in Portugal to avoid areas with dry vegetation, follow local authority instructions, and consult official sources for risk updates.
For consular assistance, Moldovans in distress can contact the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Lisbon by calling +351 961 929 964 or emailing [email protected].
The Ministry recommends exercising extreme caution and re-evaluating travel to high-risk regions, at least until safety conditions improve.
