Maia Sandu for the Japanese Public Broadcaster: "Once we become part of the EU, we will feel much safer"
Accession to the European Union is now the only way for the Republic of Moldova that will offer more opportunities for economic development and bring security to the country. The statement was made by the head of state, Maia Sandu, in an interview given to the Public Broadcaster NHK from Japan. The president also said that the Chisinau authorities are analyzing new opportunities to attract Japanese investors.
"We believe that once we become part of the EU, we will feel much safer in the family of European Union states. Of course, we will have more opportunities to develop economically and we will have greater security in a small and vulnerable country", said the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu. At the same time, the head of state emphasized that Ukraine is fighting to defend the freedom of the entire region. Sandu also said that Russia's energy resources are "weaponized" against those who do not support it in this war. "We still have a contract with Gazprom, but they decided to cut the gas supply in half. International prices are extremely high. For the Republic of Moldova, this meant the increase of energy prices seven times, only in the last 12 months", explained the President of the Republic of Moldova. Between December 1 and 3, President Maia Sandu was on an official visit to Tokyo, where she had several meetings with officials from the Japanese Government and Parliament. On December 5-7, the leader from Chisinau will be in Washington, where she will participate in the International Anti-Corruption Conference, within the Summit for Democracy. During the visit, President Maia Sandu will have bilateral meetings and will meet with the representatives of the Moldovan diaspora in the USA.
