Tiraspol extends economic state of emergency

Tiraspol has once again extended the state of emergency in the economy as of August 6. Established in December 2024, this measure will remain in effect until the end of August.
The separatist administration claims that the reduction in natural gas supplies has resulted in stagnant production, difficulties in the business environment, and a significant drop in revenues for the regional budget.
In January 2025, Moscow completely halted gas supplies to the Transnistrian region. Chisinau intervened in February, allowing gas transit under a contract between Moldovagaz and a European trader, which was funded through advance payment and supported by a €20 million grant from the EU.
Subsequently, Tiraspol declined a new €60 million European aid package, choosing instead to use gas supplied by a Hungarian company, which is financed by a firm based in Dubai.
