Nearly 60,000 left-bank drivers requested licenses from Moldova’s constitutional authorities

Residents of the Transnistrian region are increasingly interested in complying with the laws of the Republic of Moldova and participating legally in both national and international road traffic. This trend is evidenced by a notable rise in the number of driving licenses issued to citizens living in the region during the first half of this year.
As of now, there are 59,715 national model driving licenses held by drivers from the Transnistrian region, according to the State Register of Drivers and the State Register of Vehicles.
Additionally, there are 41,223 vehicles registered to citizens from the left bank of the Nistru, with plates issued under current legislation.
Of these vehicles, 27,547 have national model licenses, which display the code "MD" along with the state flag, while another 13,676 feature a neutral model license that includes an eclipse with the inscription "MD."
It is important to note that from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2024, a total of 41,123 national model driving licenses will have been issued to citizens from the Transnistrian region.
Data from the Public Services Agency indicates that in 2024 alone, approximately 7,000 licenses were issued through a simplified process, representing a 20% increase compared to 2023.
As a result, at the beginning of this year, approximately 50% of drivers in the Transnistrian region held national driving licenses.
