Yellow fire code: Extreme fire risk in southern, central, and eastern Moldova

The State Hydrometeorological Service issued a Code Yellow warning due to exceptionally high natural fire danger. Meteorologists have indicated that from August 8 to August 14, the risk of fires will be significantly elevated in the southern and eastern regions, as well as in parts of the central Republic of Moldova. This increased risk is attributed to high temperatures and a lack of precipitation during this period.

People urged to follow fire prevention guidelines

The General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU) is warning that, given the current windy conditions and high temperatures, any source of ignition could spark large-scale fires, particularly in areas with dry vegetation. In light of this, authorities are calling on the public to act responsibly and strictly adhere to fire prevention regulations.

According to IGSU guidelines, it is prohibited to burn household waste or dry vegetation in open areas. Additionally, individuals should not discard cigarette butts, lit matches, or any other flammable objects near forests or on land covered with dry grass.

Those who go on picnics or have outdoor fires are reminded to ensure that flames are completely extinguished before leaving. Authorities also advise careful supervision of children to prevent any incidents related to open flames.

IGSU emphasizes that if a fire or any potentially dangerous situation is observed, citizens must immediately contact the emergency number, 112.

Negligence in fire safety can lead to serious consequences for human lives, property, and the environment.
