A modern park with bike paths will be built in place of a ravine filled with garbage. Workers in the village of Onișcani, located in the Călărași district, are diligently working on the project. Although this initiative is very important, it has faced delays for years. Now, authorities are promising to complete the work, especially since they have received financial support from the Environmental Fund.

The redevelopment of the degraded area is in full swing. Previously, this site included a ravine that served as a dumping ground for garbage. Now, walls are being constructed to prevent soil erosion. In the future, bicycle paths, a recreational area, and trees and shrubs will be planted.

Angela Axenti lives in the center of the village of Onişcani. For as long as anyone can remember, the ravine that runs through the area has been filled with waste. Every time it rains, the area floods, and the banks of the ravine start to collapse.

Everyone is worried that the houses might also collapse. At one time, there was a school situated on the edge of this ravine. Unfortunately, the building that housed the sports hall fell into the ravine. Some nearby buildings have already been demolished, putting the residents in danger of losing their homes.

Many locals are excited about the initiative to create a park in this area, which has previously been associated with negative memories.

"It was dangerous, especially during heavy rains, because the ravine was deep and filled with garbage. After the development, we, the elderly, will be able to go out more often to relax."

"Indeed, it was a ravine overflowing with trash and dirt. Now, we are happy that the work has begun. In the past, houses would collapse because of the ravine."

The park development project is complex. First, walls must be constructed to reinforce the banks of the ravine.

Despite the heat, we are diligently working on building the retaining walls and meeting the established deadlines. Next, we will begin constructing the sidewalks.

Gheorghe Grecu, the mayor of Onișcani village, points out that the project is expensive. Without support from the central authorities, local governments cannot afford such investments.

"The sidewalks will be built along with bike paths, and there will be designated areas for water evacuation on both sides. We have also constructed two drainage wells," the mayor added.

The ravine was cleared of garbage and 1,700 cubic meters of mud. By spring, trees will be planted, and the park will be landscaped. The total cost of the project is approximately 10 million lei.
