Trump to host Armenia-Azerbaijan peace summit

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed Friday he will host Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for a "historic peace summit" aimed at ending the long-standing conflict between the two countries.
"Both leaders will join me at the White House for the official signing ceremony of the peace agreement," Trump stated, according to Deutsche Welle.
The American leader said Washington will also sign bilateral agreements with both countries to "jointly capitalize on economic opportunities" that will help unlock the potential of the South Caucasus.
"Many leaders have tried to end the war, but without success so far—thanks to TRUMP," the White House leader wrote on his social media network, Truth Social.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have been in conflict for more than 30 years over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. In September 2023, Baku took complete control of the region after a two-day military operation. 120,000 Armenians have since left the territory. Yerevan renounced all claims to the region. In June 2024, the last Russian peacekeepers left the area.
In March 2025, Baku and Yerevan reached an agreement to sign a peace treaty. However, the document remained unsigned for months. Pashinyan and Aliyev held negotiations on July 10 in Abu Dhabi, but they failed to reach a signing even then, Deutsche Welle notes.
