Moldova-Bulgaria trade surges in 2024, data shows

Trade between the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria is growing. In 2024, the total value of this trade exceeded $267 million, marking a 14.8% increase over 2023, as shown by data from the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization.

According to official statistics, the Republic of Moldova’s exports to the Bulgarian market, especially sunflower seeds and oil, saw a significant increase in 2024.

Specifically, in the past year, the Republic of Moldova exported $51.4 million worth of sunflower seeds to Bulgaria, a 275.6% increase over 2023, as well as sunflower seed oil valued at $12.9 million, a 1,157.4% increase from the previous year.

The Republic of Moldova also exported rapeseed to the Bulgarian market, valued at $13.9 million; gas meters at $8.6 million (a 43.8% increase over 2023); petroleum oils at $2.8 million (a 206% increase over 2023); and wires and cables at $2 million.

At the same time, the Republic of Moldova imported windows, wires and cables, detergents and cleaning solutions, plastic packaging articles (stoppers, lids, caps), plastic yarns and rods, and food preparations from Bulgaria.

Bulgaria is the sixth most important economic partner of the Republic of Moldova within the European Union.
