Turkey, Egypt, Bulgaria, and Romania are Moldova's favorite tourist destinations

An increasing number of Moldovans are choosing to spend their holidays abroad. In the first six months of this year, over 146,000 citizens of the Republic of Moldova travelled abroad through travel agencies, which is nearly 4% more than during the same period last year. Additionally, the number of foreigners visiting our country has risen by approximately 45%, with most of them coming from Romania.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicate that approximately 98% of Moldovan tourists travelled for leisure and recreation purposes.
Turkey continues to be the favorite destination for Moldovan citizens, with 40% of tourists choosing to visit. Other popular destinations include Egypt, Bulgaria, Romania, and Greece.
The average duration of stay has decreased to 6.2 days, compared to 6.5 days during the same period last year.
From January to July this year, 44,800 Moldovans visited tourist attractions within the Republic of Moldova. During the same timeframe, over 37,000 foreign citizens explored the country through travel agencies, marking a 44.8% increase compared to January to June 2024.
The majority of these visitors were from Romania, accounting for 65% of the total number of tourists, followed by Italy at 21.7%, and Turkey at 2%. The average length of stay for foreign tourists in the Republic of Moldova rose from 4 days to 4.7 days.
Furthermore, data from the National Bureau of Statistics reveal that the revenues generated by travel agencies and tour operators reached 1.7 billion lei in the first half of this year, reflecting a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. Revenues from domestic tourism amounted to 87.3 million lei.
