Men accused of planning Stauceni explosion caught at the airport

Two individuals, suspected of throwing a package containing explosive substances near the home of the mayor of Stauceni, were detained on Thursday, August 14, at Chisinau International Airport. The suspects were attempting to leave the Republic of Moldova when they were apprehended, according to the announcement from the General Inspectorate of Police.
Officers are conducting multiple searches in this case, and initial findings suggest that the suspects' motives are linked to economic interests, according to a police statement.
Additionally, law enforcement officials indicated that one of the two individuals had previously come under police scrutiny.
We remind you that on the night of August 9-10, a package containing explosives was thrown near the home of Stăuceni's mayor, Alexandru Vornicu. Fortunately, the explosion resulted in no casualties.
Mayor Alexandru Vornicu later told Teleradio-Moldova that he had not received any "direct threats." However, he believes that the incident was "an act of intimidation related to the position" he holds.
The Prosecutor General's Office announced that it had opened a criminal case for aggravated hooliganism.
The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officials continue to work on the case.
