Students studying abroad can access free medical services in Moldova

Students who study abroad can access free medical services when they return home, whether during the holidays or the school year.
Tatiana Rotaru, Deputy Head of the Beneficiary Relations Department at the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM), stated that students must submit an application to CNAM to obtain insured status. This application must include a certificate from their educational institution confirming their enrollment abroad and full attendance.
"Based on the application and this certificate, students should contact the representative of the CNAM Territorial Agency in their area of residence to submit their application," explained Tatiana Rotaru during the "Zi de zi" show on Radio Moldova.
She also noted that this group of individuals is eligible for all medical services available to insured persons, including treatments, emergency medical assistance, advanced diagnostic tests, and surgical or hospital treatments. However, students must submit a new application each year and confirm their ongoing enrollment at the institution.
"The status is granted based on the information received from the foreign university. Depending on the details in the certificate, the status will be issued. For example, if a student studies for a quarter, semester, or the entire academic year, those studying abroad for two or three years will need to present this certificate annually from their university," she said.
Tatiana Rotaru emphasized that this policy ensures that young people studying abroad are treated equally to those studying in the Republic of Moldova.
"There is no distinction between students studying abroad and those at home in the Republic of Moldova, except that students abroad must provide a certificate to validate their status," she pointed out.
Students can download the application directly from the CNAM website in the "Beneficiaries" section.
