Romanian language summer camp: students from Taraclia and Gagauzia attend courses in Romania

In the last two weeks of August, a group of teenagers from southern Romania will travel to Romania to participate in intensive Romanian language courses as part of the Romanian Language Summer Camp. This training is supported by the Ministry of Education and Research of both Romania and the Republic of Moldova, as well as the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau.
The activity will take place at "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University in Iași, from August 18 to 29.
The intensive Romanian language courses will feature interactive communication activities and guided visits. Two hundred students from grades IX to XII, representing foreign-language educational institutions in the Taraclia district and the Gagauzia Autonomous Region, will participate.
On August 15, just before the event, some of the participants met with representatives from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova and the Romanian Embassy in Chișinău.
Valentina Olaru, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, emphasized the importance of learning the Romanian language for students from foreign-language institutions. She stated, “This camp offers students from these institutions the opportunity to enhance their language skills, communicate more easily in Romanian, and discover Romanian culture and civilization. It is an investment in their personal and professional development, as well as in strengthening social cohesion.”
Ovidiu Viorel Năftănăilă, Chief of Staff at the Romanian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, noted that Romania will continue to support projects aimed at improving the teaching and learning of the Romanian language in Moldova.
“This is important because the Romanian language is also one of the official languages of the European Union”, he said.
Additionally, the students participated in an interactive session titled “Equality and non-discrimination: Fundamental principles of integration into society,” organized by the UN Office for Human Rights in the Republic of Moldova.
