Fugitive Șor's bloc holds unauthorized protest in Chișinău

Supporters of fugitive oligarch Ilan Șor set up tents on Saturday on the platform of the Chișinău Railway Station as part of a protest announced by the "Victory" Bloc.

The demonstration was not authorized, and law enforcement at the scene intervened immediately, dismantling the tents and escorting several participants to local police stations.
The "Victory" Bloc, a political group launched by Șor in Moscow, published images showing police detaining several young people. A TV channel close to Șor wrote on Telegram that the protesters arrived by train at the Chișinău station and were planning a flash mob on the platform to support Comrat's governor, Evghenia Guțul.
Police have not yet commented on the situation.

Representatives of the "Victory" Bloc had called on their supporters to attend an anti-government protest scheduled for 3:00 PM.
A day earlier, authorities warned that the demonstration was illegal and appealed to citizens not to participate. Dinu Țurcanu, a former member of the now-unconstitutional "Șor" Party and an organizer of the 2022–2023 anti-government protests, also warned that the demonstrations scheduled for August 16 could escalate into violence.
The head of the General Police Inspectorate, Viorel Cernăuțeanu, warned that individuals participating in these demonstrations, including by setting up tents on the capital's streets, risk fines of up to 7,500 lei a day. According to him, the penalties are much higher than the remuneration promised by Ilan Șor.
