Finance Ministry announces tax policy priorities for 2024
The Ministry of Finance organised a meeting with business representatives to discuss tax and customs policy priorities and objectives for 2024. Minister Veronica Sirețeanu said that the draft tax and customs policy for next year was to be approved by July 1, 2023, to ensure the implementation of the rules with a six-month reserve, as specified in the Tax Code and Customs Code.
Business representatives put forward a number of proposals during the discussions, including revising the investment income tax mechanism; revising the environmental pollution tax payment system; and reforming the local tax system to provide more transparency and predictability.
Finance Minister Veronica Sirețeanu noted that one of the priorities of tax policy for 2024 is to start the process of rewriting the Tax Code, together with the completion of the cycle of drafting the secondary and tertiary framework resulting from the Customs Code.
Furthermore, the minister announced the relaunch of the work of the advisory councils set up under the Ministry of Finance (tax and customs, audit, accounting, etc.). Representatives of the business community appreciated the openness of the Ministry of Finance and expressed their intention to be fully involved in this exercise, according to a press release from the ministry.
