Moldova to host top global sparkling wine competition

More than 1,000 sparkling wines from 29 countries are to be blind-tasted at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB), an international competition that will take place in the Republic of Moldova for the first time, from 5-7 September 2025.

A judging panel of more than 50 international experts, including three Masters of Wine, wine distributors, and journalists, will convene in Chișinău.

Tastings will be supplemented by visits to wineries and workshops, offering guests an immersive experience of Moldovan wine culture, a press release from the National Office for Vine and Wine (ONVV) said.

“It is an honour for us to bring the CMB to Moldova. In recent years, Moldovan wineries have made steady progress in our competitions, and their increasing success makes Chișinău a natural choice as a host city,” said Baudouin Havaux, President of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

Organisers say hosting the event is a unique opportunity to promote the country's "Wine of Moldova. A Legend Alive" brand internationally. It will also help to cement Moldova's position as a key destination for wine tourism and a producer of quality wines for foreign markets.

New module for Moldova's National Wine Conference

“The competition means more than just awarding medals: it offers producers powerful marketing tools and international visibility, helping them to open doors to new markets. We are thrilled to bring the Sparkling Wine Session to Moldova in 2025,” said Quentin Havaux, CEO of the CMB.

The competition is organised by the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, with the support of the National Office for Vine and Wine, the institution responsible for the international promotion of the country's wine brand, "Wine of Moldova."

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has a history of more than three decades and has been held in over 20 countries to date. Its presence in Chișinău confirms the international recognition of the quality of Moldovan wines and marks an important stage in solidifying the Republic of Moldova's image as a major wine hub in Eastern Europe, according to the cited source.

The National Office for Vine and Wine is organising the ninth edition of the National Wine Conference on Friday, 22 August, at the Urban Business Centre. The conference theme is "Transforming the Wine Sector: From Tradition to Global Competition." For the first time, the event's programme will include a module dedicated exclusively to the international promotion of Moldovan wines.
