Serhii Tarnovschi wins bronze at Canoe Sprint World Championships

Moldovan canoeist Serhii Tarnovschi is off to a flying start at the Canoe Sprint World Championships in Milan, winning a bronze medal in the men’s C-1 500m event.
In the final, he was outpaced by Zahar Petrov, an athlete competing under a neutral flag, and Czech two-time world champion Martin Fuksa. The Ukrainian-born Moldovan citizen finished third with a time of 1:47.38.
Tarnovschi has also qualified for the men's C-1 1000m final. In his semi-final, the Paris 2024 bronze medallist was beaten only by Hungary's Adolf Balaz and Romania's Catalin Chirila. The thrilling race saw the top three athletes separated by just a few hundredths of a second.
However, Daniela Cociu and Maria Olarasu were not as successful. The Moldovan duo finished sixth in the women's C-2 500m final. The gold medal was won by Ukraine's Liudmila Luzan and Irina Fedoriv.
