Moldovan producers showcase local products at inaugural exhibition

Hundreds of local producers showcased their products at a new exhibition in Moldova, displaying everything from food and drink to clothing and accessories. The event also featured live music and dancing.

Valentina Preguza, an almond producer, travelled from the town of Călărași to showcase her products.
"We lost the entire plantation to frost this year. If there were any almonds left, a bird probably ate them. We had a decent harvest last year, which will allow us to survive," said Valentina Preguza.
"These events are a great opportunity for everyone to discover new market trends, find new producers and partners, and, of course, new customers," said Aureliu Leancă, a local sausage producer.
"We collect old carpets in good or fair condition. Those that are still in good shape are donated to children's homes, senior care centers, or families in need. Naturally, they are sanitized first," explained Veselin Rodideal, the manager of a carpet factory.

Visitors say they always try to buy local products when they can.
"- I'd like to buy from our local producers, but it's very expensive. - How did you find the almonds? I saw you tasting them. - They're good. The large ones have great properties."
"Cheese, oil. We also really like the homemade sausages from our local producers. We always come to these exhibitions, and we are very satisfied."

The event also attracted visitors from neighbouring Romania.
"I bought some candied fruits and we're now going to buy some other fruits, pastries, and teas from the local producers."
"I picked up some products for when I'm at the office and feel like snacking. They're natural, organic, and they help me maintain my figure. For my husband, who is a bit of a foodie, I also got him some pastries."

Officials have highlighted the importance of supporting entrepreneurs in developing their businesses.
"Many of our citizens in the diaspora can't make it to the 'Made in Moldova' exhibition, which is held in winter. They should visit our local producers, as they are our best ambassadors abroad and promote our products and services," said Sergiu Harea, the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The exhibition will be open until August 24. Organisers estimate it will be visited by more than 50,000 people.
