Moldova court limits parties linked to Ilan Șor

Moldova's Supreme Court has upheld a lower court ruling that limits the activities of four political parties linked to fugitive businessman Ilan Șor.
Supreme Court justices rejected the parties' appeal, upholding the lower court’s conclusions as "correct and well-founded." The court's decision is final, though it does not dissolve the parties.
The initial ruling, made by a central appeals court on 19 August, followed a request from the justice ministry. The ministry had sought to have the parties declared successors of the former Șor Party and dissolved, after a referral from the Central Electoral Commission.
The Șor Party was declared unconstitutional last year. The court had also previously ruled that the Victorie Bloc, which included three of the four parties, could not take part in the upcoming 28 September parliamentary election. The Renaștere party was also barred from running.
