Moldova’s National Dictation event attracts thousands

More than 1,500 people have so far registered for the third edition of the Great National Dictation, an event held in Moldova to mark Romanian Language Day.
This year, organizers are making 2,000 spots available for the spelling and grammar exercise, which will take place in the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) on August 31.
Government spokesperson Daniel Vodă announced that the registration deadline is August 27, and participation is only possible after completing the form available on the official Ministry of Education and Research (MER) website.
The event aims to promote language correctness and celebrate the Romanian language.
According to Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, the Great National Dictation “has become a true symbol of respect for and love of the Romanian language.”
“The Great National Dictation is not just a competition, but a celebration of our unity. Everyone who loves the Romanian language is invited to take part: teachers, students, and professionals from all fields,” the minister said, adding: “We are expecting over two thousand participants this year, which is twice as many as last year and four times as many as in 2023.”
Approximately 1,500 people participated in last year’s event. At the first edition, held in 2023, more than 450 participants registered, with five of them scoring a perfect 10. Top scorers were awarded diplomas, books, and bookstore vouchers.
