Moldova's job market hits 13-year high as economy gains confidence

Moldova recorded its highest average number of employees in 13 years in 2024, with more than ten thousand more people in the labour market than in 2021.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the number of employees stood at 740,900 at the end of last year, a 1% increase of 7,600 people compared to the end of 2023.

"The number of employees has been growing steadily, a sign that confidence in the economy is returning and jobs are becoming more stable and accessible," said Alexei Buzu, the Minister of Labour and Social Protection. "The Economic Growth Plan, supported by the European Union, is the instrument through which we will accelerate this progress."

Of the total average number of employees in 2024, 76.1% worked in the private sector. The largest number of people were employed in the wholesale and retail trade (18%), followed by industry (15.7%) and education (14.4%).

The average monthly gross salary was over 11,900 lei in the public sector and more than 14,600 lei in the private sector in 2024.

The NBS reported that there were 29,700 registered job vacancies at the end of 2024, representing 3.9% of all jobs. The National Agency for Employment announced it helped more than 11,000 people find work in the first six months of 2025.
