Maia Sandu urges unity as electoral campaign begins: “Moldova’s fate is at stake”

The election on September 28 is critical for the future of the Republic of Moldova. As stated, "Parliament is the most important institution of the country," and it will determine "which path Moldova will take from now on." In a message promoting national unity, President Maia Sandu addressed the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on the day the electoral campaign for the September 28 elections began. She warned against attempts at destabilization from abroad and urged both voters and electoral competitors to act responsibly and remain vigilant.
“Today marks the beginning of the electoral campaign. On September 28, the Republic of Moldova will hold parliamentary elections for a term of four years. The Parliament is the most important institution in the country and will determine the future direction of the Republic of Moldova. As an independent country, Moldovans must have the freedom to choose their future,” declared Maia Sandu.
The head of state highlighted concerns about external interference in the electoral process, stating, “The democracy of the Republic of Moldova is increasingly under attack by foreign forces who, with dirty money, aim to buy our votes. They spread lies and attempt to intimidate us through destabilizing actions.”
“We witness individuals who openly serve Russia, not Moldova, actively trying to undermine the integrity of the elections and jeopardize our future,” said the President.
In this context, she warned that “the very fate of the Republic of Moldova is at stake, and together, we have a duty to protect our peace and secure a better future.”
Maia Sandu reminded citizens that last year, Moldovans made the decision to enshrine the goal of European Union accession in the Constitution. “This is our country’s opportunity to join the European family of peace and development, and we must not let this chance slip away,” she stressed.
The Moldovan president urged voters to remain vigilant during the electoral period: “I encourage you, dear citizens, to listen to your conscience, as only you can determine the direction of our country. Please report any instances of electoral corruption to the police. Be cautious of fake information, deceptive messages, and misleading videos that we may encounter in the coming weeks. Help your family and friends stay accurately informed.”
In conclusion, Maia Sandu appealed to the civic responsibility of every citizen.
“Let us stand united and just so that the Republic of Moldova emerges victorious. Be courageous and do not succumb to their threats. I believe in the wisdom of Moldovans and our ability to defend our freedom and future,” she concluded in her message to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
