The "Moldova Salons," a major art exhibition in Moldova, is celebrating its 35th anniversary. Over 200 artists from Romania and Moldova attended the opening and awards ceremony at the "Constantin Brâncuși" Gallery in Chișinău.

Over the years, it has become a platform for artists to share different generations, techniques, and artistic visions.

Evghenia Goreaceva, a Moldovan visual artist who moved to Romania 16 years ago, won the top prize for her tapestry, The Rustle of Leaves. This was her first time exhibiting at the Salons.

“This is a great joy for me,” she said. “It really represents the journey I’ve been on. When you create for the soul, the results always show.”

The Bacău County Council Award went to Eudochia Robu from the Orhei District. "This piece is from a series of theatrical masks I’ve created. I also have works with Venetian or traditional Christmas masks," she explained.

Sculptor Octavian Romanescu from Chișinău was recognised by the "George Apostu" Cultural Center in Bacău. "It's a piece cast in bronze, metal, and gold leaf. I'm happy that it was appreciated," he said.

The Salons have their origins in the Romanian interwar period and were revived in 1990 by painters Ilie Boca, Mihail Grecu and Sergiu Cuciuc. Their works are at the centre of the current edition, which brings together 222 artists and offers a panoramic view of contemporary Romanian art.

"Starting with different backgrounds, the exhibitions have become a launch platform year after year," jury president Dumitru Bolboceanu said. "This great exhibition unites us every year and is one of the most important artistic competitions in the region."

“The Salons are not just a tradition but a symbol of our unity,” said Victor Eugen Mihai, a co-organizer from Romania. "Art remains the most sincere form of dialogue.”

Ten prizes were awarded by cultural institutions from Romania and Moldova. The exhibition will also be held in Bacău starting 10 October.
