NBM releases commemorative coin for poet Mihai Eminescu anniversary

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) has issued a commemorative coin honouring the poet Mihai Eminescu to mark the 175th anniversary of his birth.
The coin’s launch coincides with the opening of the 14th World Congress of Eminescologists, a conference titled 'Eminescu’s Effigy in Art,' organised by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
“We are paying tribute to the great poet Mihai Eminescu… the voice of the depth and beauty of the Romanian language,” said Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova. The bank launched the coin ahead of Romanian Language Day on 31 August.
The commemorative coin is available in two versions: a silver coin (with a face value of 50 lei and a mintage of 1,000) and a gold coin (with a face value of 100 lei and a mintage of 500). Each coin is packaged in a transparent methacrylate capsule and presentation box, and is sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by the NBM governor. The certificate includes a QR code which provides direct access to information on the coin’s features via the bank’s official website.

The coins are on sale to the public from both the National Bank of Moldova and licensed banks in the country. They can be purchased via online requests through the NBM’s website.
According to the NBM, licensed banks can set their own price for the commemorative and jubilee coins, though it cannot exceed the NBM’s recommended price by more than three percent.
