Romanian Language Day: Moldova's National Dictation draws thousands to Chișinău

The third edition of the Great National Dictation, a language skills event, was held in Chișinău on Thursday, drawing about 2,000 people to mark Romanian Language Day.

The event was opened by Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Bucharest Mayor Nicușor Dan, who were among the hundreds of participants who paid tribute to two prominent cultural figures, composer Eugen Doga and writer Vladimir Beșleagă, who died this year.

The event, which was held in Chișinău's Great National Assembly Square, was organized by the Ministry of Education and Research under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.

The organizers also paid tribute to the late composer and writer. "They were two artistic consciences, each expressing the aspirations, sorrows, and beauty of our people in their own language, and transforming our national experience into a universal message," said Adriana Cazacu, a state secretary at the Ministry of Education and Research.

The event opened with a festive moment featuring a children's choir from the "Lia-Ciocârlia" Music and Choir Studio. Doga was honored with a musical recital, while Beșleagă was commemorated with a text selected from his prose. The top scorers were awarded diplomas, books, and bookstore vouchers.

The previous two editions drew 1,500 and 450 participants, respectively. Five people achieved a perfect score in the first year.
