The 'Alexei Mateevici' Memorial House in Zaim, a village in Moldova's Căușeni district, has received Romania's 'Cultural Merit' Order.

The decree was signed by Romanian President Nicusor Dan on Romanian Language Day.

A statement from the presidency in Bucharest said the award recognised the memorial house's "outstanding services to Romanian culture and civilisation" and its role in "strengthening ties between Romanians on both sides of the Prut River." The Order was granted the rank of Knight, Category F – "Promotion of culture."

President Nicusor Dan traveled to Chișinău on 31 August to celebrate Romanian Language Day with the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

Together with Moldova's President Maia Sandu, the Romanian leader also took part in the third edition of the "Great National Dictation" in Chișinău's Great National Assembly Square. The two leaders also laid flowers at the bust of the poet Mihai Eminescu in the town of Strășeni.
