Cristina Gherasimov at EU Council: Moldova must be ready to join EU within 3–4 years

The authorities in Chișinău are working to prepare the Republic of Moldova for potential accession to the European Union (EU) within the next three to four years. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, will convey this message to the Ministers for European Affairs of the EU member states.
The 27 ministers are currently attending the informal meeting of the General Affairs Council (GAC) of the Council of the EU, themed "The Copenhagen Criteria and Gradual Integration," taking place in Copenhagen. The Republic of Moldova was invited to participate in this event, alongside other candidate states seeking EU accession.
Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, stated before the event, "We will discuss the Copenhagen Criteria and the opportunities that accelerated integration provides to candidate states. I will convey a clear message to my colleagues that the Republic of Moldova is firmly committed to its reform process. It is crucial to continue the progress we have made in preparing the Republic of Moldova to join the EU within the next three to four years."
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov met with Marie Bjerre, Denmark's Minister for European Affairs and the current holder of the EU Council presidency for the second half of the year.
Their discussions revolved around the European agenda for the Republic of Moldova and the reforms carried out by the authorities to modernize localities, develop institutions, and enhance public services.
Gherasimov noted, "We also talked about the preparations for the analysis of the remaining chapters of European legislation, a process we are concluding this month, as well as our future priorities," reads a press release from the Office for European Integration.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Copenhagen authorities for their cooperation and emphasized, "Denmark is a reliable partner for the Republic of Moldova and a strong supporter of our European path."
We remind you that the authorities in Chișinău previously announced that the Republic of Moldova could join the European Union by 2028, provided it maintains the current pace of implementing reforms.
