The Republic of Moldova is firmly committed to European integration, a sentiment echoed by the support and friendship of the European Commission. This was highlighted by the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Christophe Hansen, during his recent two-day visit to the country. During his trip, he toured orchards and a winery and engaged in discussions with various farmers' associations. Hansen emphasized that the Moldovan agri-food sector holds significant potential.

The European Commissioner for Agriculture emphasised that the European Union is the Republic of Moldova's primary trading partner.

“Since the provisional entry into force of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement in 2014, total trade in goods between the Republic of Moldova and the EU has increased by over 150%. Furthermore, the share of Moldovan goods exported to the EU has risen from 49% in 2014 to 65% in 2024. I am here to assess the progress you have made on your path to joining the European Union, and I can confidently say that you are advancing very well and at a commendable pace,” emphasized Christophe Hansen during a press conference held on Tuesday, September 2, alongside Ina Butucel, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry reaffirmed the Government's strong commitment to continue the necessary reforms for full integration into the community space.

"We are committed to continuing our efforts to liberalize the market for our products while also implementing transparent financing mechanisms for the agricultural sector to make support more accessible to our farmers," said Ina Butucel.

Commissioner Hansen encouraged Moldovan farmers to collaborate in order to strengthen their market position and more easily access export opportunities. He emphasized that the development of agriculture must go hand in hand with digitalization and information technology. Additionally, he highlighted that adapting to climate change and improving rural infrastructure are strategic priorities.
