EU provides state-of-the-art drones to Moldova’s Interior Ministry

The Internal Protection and Anti-Corruption Service (SPIA) within the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) will respond more quickly in complex missions, including at night and in challenging conditions.

According to the Delegation of the European Union in Chisinau, the implementation of this initiative will be made possible through the use of two state-of-the-art drones. These drones are equipped with extended flight capabilities, high-resolution cameras, and thermal sensors.

Valued at over 430,000 lei, the drones were donated as part of the "EU4Moldova Resilient: Secure State, Strong Communities" project, which is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.

The "EU4Moldova Resilient: Secure State, Strong Communities" project has a budget of 9.5 million euros and aims to enhance the resilience of the Republic of Moldova against security threats and emergency situations. This initiative aims to enhance the capacities of both the state and local communities, thereby fostering a safer environment for citizens and promoting local development. It also aims to foster social cohesion and build confidence in the country’s European integration.

This project provides support for equipping institutions under the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the necessary protective gear and equipment to ensure security and facilitate rapid responses in critical situations. Additionally, by November 2025, ten volunteer fire stations will be constructed, while another ten will be reconstructed and equipped with personal protective equipment.

The project "EU4 Resilient Moldova – Safe State, Strong Communities" also promotes sustainable development in rural areas. Five localities are being supported to implement the "Smart Village" concept, with each locality receiving a budget of 80,000 euros for innovative projects. Furthermore, investments will be made in photovoltaic parks in these villages, with a budget of up to 190,000 euros per locality.

In addition, five cities will receive financing of 200,000 euros each for urban revitalization projects aimed at improving residents' quality of life.
