“ELECTIONS 2025 // Moldovans urged to check IDs before parliamentary elections

Citizens of the Republic of Moldova are encouraged to verify the validity of their identity documents ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 28, 2025. The Public Services Agency (ASP) reminds voters that only valid documents or those updated by election day will ensure their right to vote.

According to the Electoral Code, citizens can vote using one of the following documents: an identity card of a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, provisional identity documents, or a passport of a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, even if it is expired, provided there are no other legal reasons for its invalidation.

The Public Services Agency (ASP) specifies that citizens can request identity documents at the institution's territorial subdivisions. Citizens residing abroad can contact the diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Moldova for assistance.

If there are no diplomatic representations in a citizen's state of residence, they can submit their application to any other embassy or consulate of the Republic of Moldova.

The parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova are scheduled for 28 September 2025. These elections will determine the composition of the 12th Parliament, which consists of 101 deputies elected for a four-year term.

As of September 1, the State Register of Voters recorded 3,299,396 citizens with the right to vote. This number includes 2,763,678 citizens assigned to level II administrative-territorial units, 258,624 individuals who have citizenship of the Republic of Moldova but do not have a registered domicile or residence (including those who have emigrated abroad with authorization), and 277,094 citizens with a registered domicile in the administrative-territorial units on the left bank of the Nistru.
