Deputy Prosecutor General promotes vetting

Sergiu Russu, one of the two deputies to the prosecutor general, has demonstrated high integrity. The prosecutors' evaluation commission has completed the assessment of his financial and ethical integrity.

The evaluation report was sent on Wednesday, September 3, to both Sergiu Russu and the Superior Council of Prosecutors. The Council is expected to decide within 30 days whether to accept the Commission's proposal for an external evaluation.

The Commission members stated, “The evaluation process involved a thorough analysis of asset declarations and personal interests for the last five years, along with other pertinent information regarding the ethical and financial integrity of the individual. Throughout the evaluation, the Commission requested extensive clarifications through four rounds of written questions.”

Sergiu Russu was appointed Deputy Prosecutor General in June 2024, following a year and a half as the Chief Prosecutor of the Section for Combating Human Trafficking at the Prosecutor General's Office.

From October 2021 to January 2023, he held the position of acting chief prosecutor at the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases.

Sergiu Russu, a Doctor of Law, has been part of the prosecutor's office system since 2006.
