A new road improvement project is set to enhance access to the southern border of the country. Over the next three years, a 40-kilometer section of road will be rehabilitated. This road runs through the city of Cantemir and five other localities in the Cantemir and Cahul districts. The renovations will facilitate a faster connection to the Giurgiulesti border crossing and the European transport corridors.

The road sector scheduled for rehabilitation begins in the town of Cantemir, passes through the commune of Gotești in the same district, and continues through four additional localities in Cahul district: Chircani, Cucoara, Zîrnești, and Roșu.

"We have waited a long time for this, as the roads are in poor condition, leading to increased expenses and wear on our vehicles."

"The circus often comes here, and we are greatly affected by the potholes that have developed right in the center of the village. If you hit a pothole, it could lead to an accident. It’s great news that repairs are underway, allowing us to align with European standards."

The road being repaired extends to the village of Roșu, which is located 12 kilometers from the Cahul - Oancea customs. From Roșu, it is less than 60 kilometers to the Giurgiulești customs.

"This road is vital for economic agents, tourists, and everyone else, including those using the Cahul-Oancea customs. In the future, this road will be even more important due to the construction of bridges planned by the Governments of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, including the Fălciu-Leova bridge," said Petru Gandrabur, the vice president of the Cantemir district.
