ELECTIONS 2025 // CEC rejects two PAS complaints against Our Party candidates

A district vice president and candidate in the September 28 parliamentary elections took unpaid leave to avoid the incompatibilities established by legislation before the start of the electoral campaign.

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) rejected a complaint from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) on Sunday, September 7, which requested the cancellation of Mihail Dobrovolschi's candidacy in the elections. Dobrovolschi is the vice president of the Glodeni district and represents Our Party.

In its complaint, PAS argued that Dobrovolschi was suspended from his office only on September 2 by the decision of the Glodeni District Council. They claimed he should have resigned from public office by the start of the electoral campaign, which was by August 29.

In response, representatives of Our Party, led by Renato Usatîi, stated that the Glodeni District Council was the only authority that could decide on Dobrovolschi's suspension. Although he submitted his request on August 28, the council scheduled the meeting to discuss his suspension for September 2.

To comply with legal requirements and avoid any conflicts of interest, Mihail Dobrovolschi took unpaid leave from August 29 to September 3.

Angelica Caraman, the President of the CEC, noted that while Dobrovolschi was on leave until September 3, the Glodeni District Council decided to suspend him starting September 2, which created an "inconsistency."

Pavel Postica, the Vice President of the CEC, reminded members that mayors who used administrative resources in the 2023 elections were disqualified from the electoral race.

Despite the circumstances surrounding the request for suspension, the CEC rejected PAS's complaint.

In the same meeting, the CEC also dismissed a second complaint filed by PAS, which sought to cancel Nina Cereteu's registration as an election candidate on the Our Party lists. PAS contended that she participated in a public event as the mayor of Drochia on September 1, despite being required to suspend her activities until August 29.

The CEC clarified that the event PAS referred to actually took place on August 28, which was before the start of the electoral campaign.
