Blood Moon visible Sunday evening in Romania and Moldova

Astronomy enthusiasts will have the chance to witness a "Blood Moon" during a total lunar eclipse on Sunday evening. This event will be primarily observable in Asia, with partial visibility in Europe and Africa, according to g4media.ro.
Viewers in China, India, East Africa, and Western Australia will have the best vantage points to watch the event. In Europe, the spectacle will be briefly visible as the Moon rises in the early evening.
In Romania and the Republic of Moldova, the phenomenon will begin at 6:28 p.m. when the Moon enters the penumbra, although it will still be below the horizon. Since the Earth's penumbra is not very opaque, the Moon's color won't change significantly at the beginning of this phase.
In Bucharest, the Moon will rise at 7:37 p.m., already within the Earth's shadow. The most spectacular part of the eclipse is totality, during which the Moon is completely in the shadow of our planet and takes on a reddish hue. Totality will begin at 8:30 p.m., reach its maximum at 9:21 p.m., and end at 9:52 p.m. During this time, the Moon will appear relatively low in the sky toward the east-southeast. The entire eclipse will conclude at 11:55 p.m., according to the website of the “Amiral Vasile Urseanu” Astronomical Observatory in Bucharest.
While special glasses are necessary to observe solar eclipses, watching lunar eclipses only requires clear skies and favorable weather; astronomy enthusiasts must simply be in the right location.
This total lunar eclipse is the second of the year, following one observed in March. It is considered a precursor to the significant solar eclipse expected on August 12, 2026, as noted by g4media.ro.
