Chisinau Dog Show: 200 dogs compete for top prizes
More than 200 dogs took part in an international show in Chișinău over the last weekend. Impressive demonstrations and interactive activities were a highlight for both participants and spectators.
During the competitions, dogs were judged on their physical development and performance, with prizes awarded to the most talented. The event attracted dog enthusiasts from Moldova and countries including Portugal, Poland, Ukraine and Romania.
Claudia, from Portugal, travelled with her dog, Tommy, who impressed the judges.
"I usually attend events that are close by," she explained. "But I’d never travelled to other regions, and I decided this time to come. It was more out of curiosity to visit a new country.”
Another participant, from Poland, had brought a Scottish Collie.
"He is an international champion," she said. "We travel a lot. We are visiting Moldova now, with plans to go to Latvia or Estonia next."
Cyndi, a German Shepherd from Kyiv, was also awarded prizes.
"Today, she became the Grand Champion of Moldova and the Junior Champion of Moldova in two competitions," her owner said. "We take very long walks every evening and train regularly."
The dogs were judged against a number of criteria.
"We evaluate external appearance, physical condition, the correct position of the ears, size, neck length and the back — whether it is straight or curved,” explained Ludmila Pațula, an expert with the Cynological Society of Moldova. "All these criteria are checked against the standards."
"The objective of these exhibitions is zoological selection—finding the best representatives of a breed and rewarding them accordingly," said Serghei Volîneț, president of the Cynological Union of Moldova. "We invited children from boarding schools, and they were very happy. I think that's the most important thing."
The international dog show was organised by the Cynological Union of Moldova.
